Responsibilities
Job Summary
This job is responsible for planning, coordinating and supporting Virginia Mason Franciscan Health (VMFH) in the development and implementation of initiatives/programs/projects to create/maintain healthier communities, improve community health outcomes and support the effective engagement of VMFH staff in related efforts.
An incumbent represents the organization on community boards/coalitions and at a wide variety of local events to build/sustain strong and mutually trusting relationships and partnerships focused on local health issues/concerns, including the exploration of socioeconomics, healthy behaviors and physical environment influences as relevant to identifying/recommending/implementing viable solutions. Work includes collaborating with various sectors of the community to educate the public regarding VMFH programs/services, promote a positive image of the organization and to enhance the depth of VMFH community involvement/influence.
Work also includes:

developing the county-specific VMFH Community Health Needs Assessments (CHNA) and Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP);
providing staff education on community benefit concepts, standards and guidelines;
tracking/reporting on division-wide community benefit activities; and
collaborating with community organizations/partners to identify barriers to creating/maintaining healthier communities, cultivate innovative partnerships, address priorities/issues through collaborative problem-solving and develop creative strategies/solutions.

Work requires knowledge of effective tactics/practices relating to the development/promotion of healthier communities. Considerable exposure to local community service agencies/resources is also required.

Job Requirements

Develops VMFH Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA), a tool for guiding community benefit and population health efforts, and the Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP), representing VMFH in King, Pierce and Kitsap County collaboratives.
Coordinates, organizes and supports the involvement of VMFH with local stakeholders in promoting the development of healthier communities and improving health outcomes; works collaboratively with various sectors (e.g. business, non-profit, government, etc.) to identify opportunities/barriers to creating/maintaining healthier communities and to propose/implement effective and sustainable solutions.
Oversees the implementation and administration of grant-funded community projects; monitors activities and assures compliance with grant provisions and budget.
Participates in the development of the overall VMFH strategic plan for community health; recommends and implements plans/programs that are specific to the needs of communities surrounding VMFH facilities and support/encourage the effective engagement of VMFH staff in those efforts.
Leads Community Benefit education, tracking and reporting for division-wide VMFH facilities; tracks and communicates community benefit trends to key internal stakeholders.

Job Knowledge/Abilities

Knowledge of concepts, standards, tools and effective practices relating to the creation of sustainable healthy communities, including community organizations and resources.
Knowledge of the content, intent and application of regulations and program guidelines applicable to the business function(s) under designated scope of responsibility.
Knowledge of the principles, practices and requirements for developing/reviewing grant proposals and administering grant programs.
Knowledge Community Benefits definitions and standards as identified by CommonSpirit Health.
Knowledge of the health care industry in general, and of the vision, values, strategies, objectives, policies and systems of the organization.

Ability to express ideas and convey information effectively in verbal and written communications, and to display an engaging manner in group meetings/presentations.
Ability to display diplomacy, sensitivity and effective persuasion techniques in making presentations to community stakeholders and VMFH leadership.
Ability to read, understand and communicate in English sufficient to perform the duties of the position.
Ability to use office equipment and automated systems/applications/software at an acceptable level.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as required by the duties of the position.

Qualifications

Education/Work Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Health Care Administration or related field, and three years of progressively responsible recent related work experience (preferably coordinating volunteer and/or community outreach activities) that demonstrates the attainment of the requisite job knowledge, skills and abilities.
Or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
