The Design Manager has responsibility for the overall administration and coordination of the design of a project or multiple projects, for timely and profitable completion in a professional manner, ensuring the goals of the Owners, the Consultant and partners are met.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
Responsibility/Role of Design Manager:
Maintain and improve Owner/Consultant relations and direct and manage the design process
Administrate “The Contract,” especially the Performance Specifications
Administrate the Designer’s subcontract
Control the design to allow the team to meet the Target Budget
Provide design coordination and assist the PM and Superintendent in Constructability Reviews
Develop accurate and meaningful design schedules and enforce those schedule
Manage project design coordinators staff
Train and develop project design coordinators staff
As a member of the management team, the Design Manager will be evaluated on his/her overall abilities to manage.

Computer knowledge and efficiency, including Microsoft Office products and computer modeling software

Exhibits strong leadership qualities
Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality at all times
Dependability
Excellent time management and organizational skills
Strong decision making/problem solving skills
Construction cost knowledge
Licensed Architect experience preferred
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s Degree – Architecture, Construction Management, Engineering or equivalent
Minimum of 10 years of progressively complex and responsible positions
Recent experience managing the design on projects in the $20,000,000 to $100,000,000 plus range
Licensed Architect experience preferred
