), 12-month, fixed-term Faculty Research Assistant position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the School Head.

The School of Nuclear Science & Engineering (NSE) at Oregon State University (OSU) is seeking a full time Faculty Research Assistant (FRA) to support activities and provide oversight for several externally funded research projects. The purpose of this position is to lead the operations of several funded testing programs in support of the research, development, and deployment of advanced reactor technologies.

The FRA will collaborate with an active research team that comprises a Principal Investigator, several full-time research faculty, and a robust number of graduate and undergraduate students. The FRA will be expected to oversee student work that leads to the successful operations of the test facilities and experiments in a timely way while complying with safety and program quality requirements. This exciting new position will lead to the dissemination of experimental data and results across multiple one-of-a-kind facilities that operate under representative nuclear reactor thermal hydraulic conditions.
Position Duties

Active support and advancement of University and College diversity, community, equity and inclusivity are fundamentally embedded into all of the Assistant Dean for Curriculum and Assessment activities, both as a responsibility and an expectation.

60% Test Facility Management.
Direct facility operations and supervise a 4-6 person team made up of graduate and undergraduate students in the OSU NSE Nuclear Science and Engineering Thermal Hydraulic (NSETH) program including
(1) providing for facility modifications and assuring that modifications are properly implemented, (2) assuring that quality assurance, operations, maintenance, calibration and safety procedures are developed, current and properly implemented,
(3) assuring that equipment is ordered and inventoried as appropriate to support the project goals, (4) providing for regular training as needed to meet facility quality assurance requirements, operations requirements and project goals,
(5) developing and implementing operator, test engineer and instrument specialist training and qualification programs,
(6) developing special testing methods to establish facility baseline conditions, such as energy balances and special initial conditions, and
(7) assuring that operations are performed in a safe manner.

30% Test Management and Operations.
Develop test plans and lead data interpretation efforts for the test facilities including
(1) participating in meetings with the project sponsor and their subcontractors and the on-site analysis group,
(2) supervising facility staff to assure that project goals are met in a timely and safe manner,
(3) developing and implementing a testing schedule that is realistic and responsive to the sponsor’s needs,
(4) supervise or perform operational activities as needed to complete all required verification and matrix tests supporting the program,
(5) develop draft scopes of work and budgets in Cayuse, working with the pre-awards office as appropriate.

5% Professional Development.
Author technical reports, journal articles, conference proceedings and presentations at technical meetings and conferences.

5% Other Duties as Assigned.
Minimum/Required Qualifications

BS in Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or another related field.
Two years of project/program management experience.
One year of operational plant supervisory experience.
Experience planning and managing multiple projects simultaneously, with attention to detail, timelines, and multiple stakeholders needs.
Demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing equity and diversity, and to inclusive excellence, as demonstrated by proactive initiatives, efforts, collaborations, and/or educational experiences.

Preferred (Special) Qualifications

One year of supervisory or operational experience at a large-scale research test facility.
Demonstrated experience and knowledge of hydraulic and hydro-mechanical experimental concepts.
Working Conditions / Work Schedule

Some evening and weekend work is likely. Occasional travel may be required.
