About the Position
Reporting to the Executive Director, working with contracted bookkeeping service and engaging with the Board Finance Committee, the Finance Manager will bring strong financial analysis skills, new ideas and expertise to our overarching financial management as well as program and project specific financial support.

Qualifications

5 or more years’ previous work experience in a non-profit financial role
A good understanding of accounting concepts, financial reporting standards and best practices
A good understanding of grants, donations, restricted versus unrestricted funds and related non-profit financials.
Experience with accounting software, financial analysis and maintaining financial procedures
Experience communicating financial information to non-finance professionals and diverse stakeholders
Spanish language skills are not required but would enable stronger direct engagement with some of our international team members and partners.
A degree in finance, accounting, business studies or a related field, preferred, work experience

Key Responsibilities and Functions
Specific responsibilities of the position will include, but not be limited to:

Prepare financial reports, provide finance tracking and oversight
Manage our contract with Susan Matlack Jones (SMJ)- full-service bookkeeping support
Review payment requests and generate invoices, ensure proper allocation of revenue and expenses and provide reconciliation of expense receipts and contributions
Work collaboratively with the Administrative Coordinator and SMJ to ensure proper allocation of revenue and expenses and corresponding record keeping
Collaborate with the Admin Coordinator and SMJ to have appropriate separation of duties and provide back up coding and payroll processing as needed
Own in-office donation, mail and banking tasks to support financial activities
Support Admin Coordinator in the transaction processing for payroll, contracts, invoices etc.
Support Admin Coordinator and Executive Director with HR information system (BambooHR)
Work closely with the Executive Director to evaluate financial performance, modeling and projecting for overall organization health and wellbeing
Work with the Executive Director and Program Directors to evaluate organizational and program financial performance on a regular basis
Communicate with Board Finance Committee, executive director, program director and others about budgets and finance
Support our team to better understand the financial status of our activities and share your excitement and knowledge about finance with our teams
On an annual basis, support annual budget development and work with SMJ and our auditor to complete the financial audit and form 990
Represent Green Empowerment with our bank representatives, investment advisor and auditor
Manage our insurance policies to ensure we have the appropriate insurance, they are current, up to date and accessible

Remuneration: $65,000 annualized salary for a full time 40hrs/week. We are open to this being a part-time position for the right candidate and encourage candidates that would prefer flexible hours, a reduced schedule and/or hybrid work to apply! Full Benefits include employer-paid medical insurance, retirement plan, five weeks paid time off, paid holidays including the week off between Christmas and New Year’s Day. Full employee paid benefits become eligible at 24hrs/week. The position is designed for flexible remote and office hours at our headquarters in Portland, OR.
