GENERAL DESCRIPTION/PURPOSE OF JOB
The Housekeeping Inspector position exists to support the Housekeeping staff and inspect their work on a daily basis, to ensure that the hotel’s standards are being met. The Housekeeping Inspector is responsible for ensuring that all standard operating procedures pertinent to Housekeeping are followed. Assists in training housekeeping staff in all housekeeping procedures and standards. Ensures that employees have a sufficient amount of necessary supplies through supply and linen inventories. The Inspector is also expected to clean and service guest rooms and public spaces as necessary to ensure that rooms are available for guest use.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Responsibilities vary but may include:
Inspects the cleaning of the guest rooms, public areas and back of the house; ensures compliance with accident/loss prevention programs, SOP’s and health/sanitation standards and regulations to achieve a high level of cleanliness and guest satisfaction.
Expected willingness to join room attendants in cleaning rooms as needed
Prioritizes all work to ensure proper handling of guest problems, staff problems, and internal hotel challenges.
Issues assignments to staff reviewing special requests and areas of concentration to ensure a smooth flow of housekeeping operations.
Monitors and controls supplies in order to control inventory and ensure proper supplies are available while controlling expenses.
Respond to guest requests, concerns and problems to ensure guest satisfaction.
Communicates with Director of Housekeeping and Housekeeping Supervisor regarding all aspects of housekeeping operations.
Inspects and documents condition of physical plant, equipment, hazards, systems and general operation.
Reports unusual conditions and notifies management and/or maintenance of need for repairs.
Follows safety policies and guidelines of the department, Company, State or Federal authorities. Utilizes safety equipment as required.
Carries out emergency training and procedures to ensure appropriate protection of the hotel, guest, staff and company assets.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Minimum of high school diploma or GED
Minimum 2+ years of Hotel Housekeeping experience
Prior Hotel Inspector or Supervisory Experience preferred
Ability to use Hotel PMS System
Ability to speak, read and write in English
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
2+ years of experience working in a hotel or other hospitality environment.
6+ months of supervisory experience
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND/OR ABILITIES
Working knowledge and experience in hotel cleaning procedures, equipment and supplies, and use of cleaning chemicals.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-energy, and demanding work environment.
Must be able to change activity frequently and cope with interruptions.
Ability to work alone and as a team player with all levels of hotel staff.
Must be able to work effectively in a stressful environment, communicate well with others, effectively deal with guests, and accept constructive criticism.
Able to ensure department paperwork required of individual position is completed in a legible and readable condition, and that all equipment and work areas are kept clean, neat and orderly at all times.
Able to work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays.
Able to maintain a clean, neat and professional appearance in accordance with the Mark Spencer Hotel’s dress code.
ADDITIONAL RELEVANT INFORMATION
This position is approximately 35-40 hours per week.
Hours may fluctuate due to Hotel occupancy. Weekend and holiday work is REQUIRED.
Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States in accordance with federal immigration law, and must pass a drug screen following any conditional offer of employment. Employees also must pass a criminal background check prior to any employment with the Company, and may be subject to periodic criminal background checks during any employment with the company.
