Description :
The Operations Manager reports to the General Manager and is responsible for assisting in the administration, planning, budgeting, and direction for the operations of Hy-Vee Arena. Duties include, but are not limited to, front and back-of-house services, technical services, information technology, conversion, custodial services, and equipment inventory control. This position ensures an effective and cost efficient program by managing the Operations Budget, and performs related day-to-day responsibilities as required.
This position coordinates all elements of facility operations including budgeting, purchasing, directing the operation and maintenance of the mechanical, electrical, HVAC, custodial, grounds, lighting, sound, a/v equipment, telecommunications systems, security, smoke/fire detectors and traffic control. The Operations Manager serves as facility safety chairman to maintain a safe and secure facility for the public and employees.
Assists General Manager in the overall daily operation and maintenance of the facilities.
Plan, direct, coordinate, and review the work plan for all event load-in and load out; meet with staff to identify and resolve problems; assign work activities, projects and programs; monitor workflow; review and evaluate work products, methods and procedures.
Select, train, motivate and evaluate staff; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies.
Participate in the develop and administration of the Operations budget; forecast and reconciliation of funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies.
Coordinate facility arrangements and monitor the work of contractors.
Ensure staff is working safely, efficiently and are aware of proper safety guidelines. Conduct regular safety meetings.
Order supplies and materials for maintenance programs within budget guidelines; receive and maintain supplies.
Develop and maintain an accurate record keeping system; including equipment maintenance and inventory logs.
Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in an operations position in arena, convention center, or public assembly facility with knowledge of load-in/load-out and event coordination including progressive supervisory responsibility.
Bachelor’s degree from accredited college/university in a related field (Facility Management, Sports Management, etc.) preferred; High School Diploma (or equivalent) required.
Strong interpersonal skills required; including excellent verbal and written communication skills in the English language.
Self-motivated with excellent organizational skills.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule including, early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays and extended number of consecutive days.
Highly proficient in Microsoft Office – Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint – and comfortable with learning new technology platforms.
Physical Abilities
Able to lift items daily above 50lb, and occasionally +75lbs.
Able to stand for long periods of time.
Frequent stooping, bending, pulling and pushing.
Able to be mobile for most of each shift
