Lab Assistant/Specimen Processor ARRMC (Lab Microbiology)
Additional Position Details: FTE: 0.500000 | Part Time | Variable Hours/Variable Days
Due to the nature of the work – this position does require the flexibility to work variable hours and variable days – to include day, evening, weekend and holidays hours.
Salary: Starting at $17.74 an hour and up (based on years of relevant experience). Plus, you will earn extra shift differentials for swing, night, and weekend hours:
$1.27 extra for working between 3:00pm – 11:00pm
$2.15 extra for working between 11:01pm and 7:00am
$1.10 extra for working weekends
Asante is currently offering a $750 sign on bonus upon hire and a $750 retention bonus after 6 months for any qualified external candidate who applies and is hired into a part-time or full-time position. Bonus payment amounts are prorated based on FTE accepted.

Position Summary
The Lab Assistant/Specimen Processor contributes to the overall patient experience by using organizational and communication skills to receive and process laboratory specimens as specified by regulatory requirements and laboratory standard operating procedures. This is done through assessing requisition dates, specimen adequacy and acceptability to ensure accurate order entry and high-quality laboratory results.
Qualifications
Education
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience demonstrating the ability to effectively communicate as needed for the position is required
Prior education or demonstrated knowledge in medical terminology
Experience
1 year of laboratory experience or a combination of education and or related experience in a healthcare setting providing knowledge of medical terminology is required
Specimen processing experience including esoteric reference lab specimen handling and packaging, preferred
Phlebotomy experience and/or knowledge of laboratory tests and /or laboratory ordering processes, preferred
College courses/credits toward advanced degree, especially science course work, preferred
Data entry, keyboarding experience and computer proficiency, preferred
Licensure/Certifications
Medical Laboratory Assistant through the Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), preferred
Other Skills & Abilities
Good organizational skills that ensure accurate processing under adverse conditions
Detail oriented and ability to multi-task while maintaining a calm and effectual demeanor
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Encourages teamwork through cooperative interactions with co-workers and other departments
Ability to adapt to new processes
