Job Summary

The Department of Mathematics at Eastern Washington University (EWU) invites applications for a special faculty lecturer position with expertise in
Mathematics to begin in September 2022.

The Department of Mathematics has 11 tenure-track faculty, 15 lecturers, and teaches approximately 25,000 full-time student equivalent credit hours per academic year. The primary responsibility will be to teach lower division mathematics, possibly including developmental mathematics courses.

We are seeking broadly trained candidates who will be inspirational teachers, role models, and mentors who complement the strengths of our faculty to engage in instructionally-intensive undergraduate programs. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching. Candidates must show a high degree of interest in human and cultural diversity with a demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach to teaching and scholarship that is supportive to the diverse needs, including universal access, of our students, faculty, staff, and the public. Additionally, all faculty are expected to actively participate in curriculum development and assessment of student learning.

The candidate hired into the position will receive a one-year contract. Appointment for additional years is dependent on program need, availability of funding, and evidence of successful teaching at EWU.

Teaching responsibilities include 45 credits per academic year, teaching lower division mathematics, possibly including developmental mathematics courses. Requirements for this position include a Master’s degree in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Statistics, or another closely related field.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Statistics, or closely related field.
Two years (or equivalent) of full time teaching experience.
Demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach that is supportive to the diverse needs, including universal access, of our students, faculty, staff, and the public.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior teaching experience in college level mathematics.
Interest and qualifications to teach a wide range of mathematics courses ranging from Developmental Mathematics to Calculus.
