The Respiratory Services Manager shall be responsible for participating in and supervising all aspects of patient care including staff scheduling activities; development, implementation and compliance with facility and department policies, and serving as a clinical resource person within the department. The incumbent shall also demonstrate accountability for and contribution to program development, quality improvement, problem-solving and productivity enhancement in a flexible interdisciplinary fashion.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintains the ability to perform the role of staff respiratory care practitioner meeting all performance criteria established for the area.
Participates in the development and review of Cardiology and Respiratory Therapy Services policies, providing input regarding proposed revisions, promoting staff awareness of policies, and maintaining policy/practice guidelines manual according to JCAHO standards.
Formulates staffing needs based on level of competence and expertise, salary cost, unit volume and hours used. Completes departmental schedule at least two weeks in advance and maintains no greater than 10% variance of productivity standards on an annual basis.
Assists with the management of the department budget and maintains expenses within budgetary guidelines.
Develops and maintains good working relationships with other departments, nursing units and physicians.
Supervises Respiratory Therapy staff. Provides coaching and counseling as needed and in a timely fashion. Records and maintains accurate documentation of employee records, counseling and performance management in employee files. Consults with Department Head and/or Human Resources regarding performance management issues. Maintains patient and employee confidentiality in addressing employee issues and practice guidelines.
Monitors the educational and competency activities of all department employees, coordinates the orientation of new staff, plans staff education and teaching, presents in-services as needed, and monitors attendance at unit meetings, continuing education, and in-service programs.
Maintains complete and accurate records including department statistics and productivity reports so that documentation is complete and accurate at all times.
Participates in the development of Departmental Performance Improvement Plan. Monitors the collection of performance improvement data and participates in the analysis of this data. Implements action plans to improve performance based on data collection. Monitors for effectiveness of action plan.
In cooperation with the Department Head, develops and implements new programs and procedures.
Communicates and demonstrates a professional image/attitude to patients, families, clients, coworkers and others by adhering to dress code, adjusting personal schedule to meet the needs of the organization and making a positive contribution to department and facility rapport and teamwork.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Graduate of an approve Respiratory Therapy Program.
Certified or Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Therapy. Licensed by the state of Missouri to practice respiratory care. BLS certified. ACLS preferred.
Five years of clinical experience.
Excellent Communication skills. Natural leadership abilities. Basic computer skills. Ability to analyze and interpret productivity and financial data. Time management. Good clinical reasoning and assessment skills. Ability to lift/transfer patients and equipment. Ability to perform frequent and prolonged bending, stooping, crouching, walking and standing.
