POSITION SUMMARY:
The skills trainer works collaboratively with a mental health provider (counselor) to provide a clinically guided skills training program tailored for a particular client. A skills training program allows the child/youth to practice and reaffirm skills they are working on in therapy in a variety of “real-world” settings, in the office, at home, and in the community. Areas of growth targeted by skills training can include emotion identification and regulation, anger management, social skills, decision making, boundaries, safety, and other coping skills. Skills training facilitates development of necessary skills in order for client and/or family to manage symptoms or functional impairments independently.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide a variety of life skills training to children and youth.
Provide skills training in individual and group settings.
Work collaboratively with mental health providers to develop appropriate skills training programs tailored to the needs of a particular client.
Work collaboratively with treatment team and participate in the family’s team and/or case management meetings.
Gain certification in the CANS (Child and Adolescent Needs/Strengths) Assessment Tool (ages 0-5 and 6-20) and update CANS as per fidelity standards.
Fulfill all documentation requirements in accordance with Lifeways policy and procedures.
Other responsibilities as assigned to support specific department/business needs, including backup support for co-workers.
