Starlight is seeking a passionate and business-savvy “Star” to join our team as Philanthropy Coordinator! This will be a full-time, salaried position (commensurate with experience + commission) that will work year-round.
Starlight’s Philanthropy department aims to drive a culture of philanthropy both internally and externally through a donor-centric approach based on authentic relationship building, meaningful acknowledgment and tangible impact. As a member of the Philanthropy team, this position will serve as a utility player that supports all aspects of Starlight’s philanthropic efforts including but not limited to: event management, gift processing, donor cultivation and stewardship, ticketing coordination and prospect research. Key elements of this position will include strong verbal and written communication skills, the ability to balance various projects and duties simultaneously, effective advocacy for all of Starlight’s initiatives, and ethical and efficient gift acknowledgment and processing.
Essential Functions:
Acquire and maintain a sound knowledge and understanding of Starlight’s mission, vision and strategic plan.
Understand and communicate Starlight’s giving and engagement opportunities.
Advocate for and professionally represent Starlight within the community.
Commit to Starlight’s philanthropic values of showing meaningful acknowledgment, demonstrating tangible impact and fostering a sense of community purpose.
Special Events
Assist with internal donor cultivation and stewardship events by helping with RSVP tracking, attendance input and guest list generation.
Support fundraising efforts by organizing prospect lists for event committee meetings.
Collaborate with the Marketing department on special event signage, program creation, the printing and mailing of invitations and transcribing video interviews for various multimedia projects.
Work select on-site events as needed, such as donor hospitality areas before Broadway performances, donor and Board of Directors receptions and major fundraising events like the Annual Benefit Gala and Starry Night at Starlight.
Donor Relations
Cultivate relationships with donors by making timely acknowledgments and finding meaningful ways to further connect them to Starlight.
Oversee Starlight’s Adopt-a-Seat program by ordering seat plaques and working with the Operations department to ensure plaques get installed in a timely fashion.
Perform regular prospect research to identify additional potential Starlight donors and supporters.
Administrative Support
Utilize CRM database to assist with donation input, pledge tracking, invoice preparation, list pulls and routine data clean-up.
Assist with a major multimillion-dollar campaign by managing the gift agreement process and monitoring the fulfillment of multi-year pledges.
Record Board meeting minutes, update Board member information and enter department meeting attendance into Board management platform.
Work in collaboration with the ticket office to make sure any donor-related ticket purchases, upgrades or general issues are properly handled.
Support Philanthropy team members with other projects needing additional assistance.

Qualifications:
Clear ability to articulate passion for performing arts, civic assets and community engagement.
Ability to multi-task and balance handling many different projects and duties simultaneously.
Willingness to serve as a team player and take on any project that supports Starlight’s philanthropic efforts.
Desire to seek, accept and implement feedback.
Open to new ideas and able to manage competing priorities.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong ability to think ahead and meet or beat deadline
Self-starting and ambitious with an enthusiasm for innovation to increase efficiency and productivity.

Competent in MS Office.
Experience with the Tessitura database preferred.
Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
1-3 years of relevant experience required.
Working Conditions: Most work is desk-based utilizing computer, phone and other office equipment. Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends for events such as performances, company events and donor events. Must be flexible to changing priorities and new projects. Must have reliable transportation. Travel around the Greater Kansas City area may be required.
