Post-Doctoral Fellow in Collective Tumor Signaling, Migration, and Metastasis
A postdoctoral research position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Kevin Cheung at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. The Cheung laboratory takes a particular interest in the social life of breast cancer cells. For decades, dogma has held that cancer cells must metastasize individually. However, a wealth of studies now reveal that tumor cells can also migrate and metastasize to distant organs as tumor cell clusters. Crucially, this collective pathway endows breast tumor cells with greatly augmented potential to migrate, proliferate, and evade cancer therapy. Our group explores the molecular and cellular mechanisms regulating this collective process using time-lapse microscopy, 3D organotypic culture, novel animal models, and clinical studies of circulating tumor cells. Pairing cell biologic insight with translational impact, we aim to innovate new therapeutic approaches to effectively eradicate and prevent metastatic breast cancer.
We are seeking highly motivated and experienced postdoc candidates interested in mechanisms of collective signaling (Wrenn et al. Cell 2020) and polyclonal metastasis (Cheung and Ewald. Science 2016). Multi-omic profiling, organoids, and mouse models will be used to dissect inter-cellular interactions and their roles during metastasis and therapy resistance.
