Phoenix School is recruiting a School Safety and Wellness Lead to work with our student services team and coordinate with leadership certain safety and wellness objectives of the school. Duties would include being a wellness mentor to students to assist with positive behavior objectives of the school.

This position would be located in our front office, but duties may present as ‘on the move’ for ensuring a safe and secure learning environment for students, staff, and visitors to our campus. Duties include observing and evaluating a wide variety of activities to identify areas of risk and unsafe situations. Recommend and/or implement preventative and early interventions where possible. Follow protocol for reporting and escalation of situations where needed.

Under the supervision of Executive Director, this position serves as the main point of contact to many community partners and stakeholders. Prior experience preferred but not required. Responsibilities include regular contact with students, staff, and the public.

Opening:
Full-Time, 2022-2023 School Year

Assignment: 40 hours per week, scheduled between the hours of 7:00am and 3:30pm, Monday through Friday.

Wage:
$20.87 to $28.40 per hour (DOE)

Position Requirements:

Completion of Safe Schools training (available on-site)
Must have a desire to work with high school students in a professional manner and demeanor
Ability to work independently at times and show initiative on team projects
Ability to successfully pass a drug test (random or otherwise)
Perform in a professional manner while working with partnering organizations
Ability to communicate in non-technical terms with a diverse population of staff and students
Regular and reliable attendance
Ability to demonstrate an understanding and importance of customer service
U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident
Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent
Must successfully pass a criminal history background check and fingerprint screening

A valid driver’s license, clean driving record and ability to provide documentation

Preferred Qualifications:

Broad knowledge of local police policy, regulations and procedures
Demonstrated competence with at-risk youth and families
Prior experience working within a school and/or a youth-oriented organization
Prior training with safe management of disruptive and assaultive behavior such as CPI
21 years of age or older to meet driving insurance requirement

Duties & Responsibilities:

Provide safety and security related leadership to students, staff and community members while enforcing agency rules and policies. Take action to prevent unruly behavior and unsafe or illegal acts
Creatively and collaboratively problem solve in their daily work with students, families, and coworkers
Coordinates shuttle bus to RHS staff supervision needs
Assists in supervising student conduct and activities with special emphasis on parking lots, eating areas and campus perimeter
Enter and/or retrieve data from selected specialized computer systems and databases for a variety of data specific to student needs
Help coordinate student assistance resources for students such food, clothing, and hygiene pantries
Help facilitate individual and group skill building activities through a Restorative Justice lens as needed
Enforce agency policy concerning visitors to the campus
Knowledge of school policy, regulations, and procedures is a basic requirement of this position
Coordinate tracking of school’s drug screening processes and assist with outside partners, like Adapt Integrated Health care, in their ability to implement care plans for students
Serve as a key member of the agency’s safety committee and help coordinate annual needs for drills
Serve as a key member of the agency’s wellness committee and help coordinate healthy lifestyle resources for staff and students
Attend and participate in school interventions and school threat assessment team meetings
Reports safety, sanitation, fire hazards and needed maintenance repairs to appropriate administrator
Responsible for upkeep and maintenance of radio equipment for student services team members

Marginal Duties and Responsibilities:

Assists staff as necessary including answering telephones, routing telephone calls or messages to appropriate staff and operating general office machinery

Attends staff meetings and/or in-service trainings as needed
Assist with field trips needs when appropriate
Seek best practices in the education and behavioral health realm to assist organization in expanding its trauma-informed practices and restorative justice aspects
Fulfills other related duties as assigned by supervisor
